Try this variation: substitute 1 cup of flour with 1 cup of oats and butterscotch chips instead of chocolate. Yum!

Missy,

My favourite chocolate chip cookie add-on? I use Bailey's or Kahlua instead of the milk called for in the recipe. Holy Cannoli!

I'm thinking that looks awfully good, and will try it as soon as I give up this low carb thing (what happens when you wait until 2 weeks before you have to take your kids to the waterpark and realize that the yoga pants you're currently sporting will not work and then you panic. ).

And not that it's necessarily relevant to anything, but since you asked the other day, I like the more pictures, but I also like the recipe at the end. For whatever that's worth. :g:

Oh nom nom nom... Ok so i stumbled upon this recipe two days ago. As I embarked on making them last night I was like "OMG I have to buy so much special stuff for them... this better be worth it." And making commenced. And then I was skeptical as how a dough that looked so liquidy could ever make a good cookie. I was expecting flat chewy cookies. But as I pulled the first batch out of the oven.. OMG These are the best! You're serious when you say this are the best CC cookies EVA!!!! Mine look a little fluffier than yours tho.

Nom to tenth power!

Hey there. Wonderful recipe, tried them twice over the last week and they were a real success among friends and family.

The hardest part was to convert all US measures (cup, stick) into grams - I'm French :) Those are rather correct :

D - Not really. I usually make sure that I undercook the broccoli a bit if I'm making it that day. The ones I used above were from dinner the night before so they're looking a little forlorn. The breadcrumbs do help to recrisp them though.

Julie - I'm so glad you liked it! Thanks! I usually talk to myself when I cook anyway. I just post my better material. LOL

Dude, that looks way farking good and a creative use for broccoli. I always just steam my broccoli and eat it as a side, but this looks teh yummy. You can never go wrong with pasta, crispy topped breading and cheese.

Does the broccoli get all mushy when you bake it?

Stephteph - You say that like its an unwelcomed reaction. lolz.

Jane - For real! I love Gruyere more than should be allowed. I'll have to try them. My mom used to use no yolks and they never tasted right to me. Maybe they've changed their blend so they taste yummy again!

Sheri - You could probably use any veg you like on this. Zucchini might be good, what with all the breading and cheese. Cauliflower would probably be nice as would asparagus. Green beans might not be bad. Give it a shot!

You had me at "Gruyere." LOL

That looks like a must do -- I do love me some egg noodles. Just a note...my new favorite is No Yolks brand, the "dumpling" size. They are really good [with your beef tips].

Boff - That was my exact thought when I started trying new cookie recipes! I'd been a faithful Toll House baker but no more.

For those of you in the U.K., or any other rational metric system using country....

1 'stick' of butter is the same as our 1/2 'cup' (yep - just as unhelpful....) or 4 oz. - this is
113.4 grams -

So 2 'sticks' is 8 oz. or about 227 grams -
if butter comes in a 250 gram bar, then I would just use the whole bar and add a little bit of extra flour -

Dave - You can't leave a comment with "should be illegal" icing without leaving a recipe! Because boy do I love some good chocolate icing! Also I hear you there! This week's treat is a 10-minute key lime pie! YUM!

cmt - I notice that when its too humid or I haven't quite chilled the dough enough the cookies do the same thing. Also the fudge probably played a factor but the idea of fudge + cookies made my heart swoon. Were they tasty as a sheet cookie? It might be fun to turn it into a fudge/cookie sheet cake. That sounds really really yummy!

I'm a 56 years old, but ...EVAR!!! is what made me read this recipe and I'm glad I did. Alton Brown has his remarkable way with many things and if I hadn't just made brownies tonight, (with a 'should be illegal' chocolate icing), I'd have made these instead.

There's always next week though. I can only make one treat like this a week. Got to watch the rate at which my figure expands you know. : )

And for the users of the metric system, I've taken the liberty of converting the imperial measurements from the recipe.

236,60 milliliter unsalted butter
(1 stick ~= 113 g)
532 mL bread flour
4,93 mL kosher salt
4,93 mL baking soda
59,14 mL sugar
295,70 mL brown sugar
1 egg
1 egg yolk
29,57 mL milk
7,39 mL vanilla extract
473,18 mL semisweet chocolate chips

Oven heated to 190 degrees celcius.

These are obviously way too precise so a little rough rounding should be done.
This looks like my next "here-have-a-cookie"-project.

Gary - Thanks for clearing things up. With the stumble-upon frenzy I've gotten several actually hateful comments over the past few days. I understand how you could have made that mistake but as you go thru other recipes you'll notice I use it every once in a while for emphasis and the simple fact that I get a kick out of using it occasionally.

Thanks and I'll keep posting as long as I've got anyone who still appreciates reading it!

Sorry if I was misunderstood. No hating was suggested, implied, nor should it be inferred. As I said in the previous post, I think you did a very nice job on this recipe (and on the website in general, I might add).

Netspeak is simply a pet peeve of mine and, since you only used it there (in this, the only page I had seen at the time), I assumed it was an error. I was just trying to help you out.

Sure, this will be more fodder for the "hater haterz," who mistakenly label me as such, but there you go...

Keep up the good cooking work.

This is the second time I've heard things about melted butter in chocolate chip cookies. I'll have to give this a try. Your cookies look perfectly golden and delicious! Thanks for sharing!

Why must you torture me with baked goods in the middle of summer? Its too hot for my oven...but I think I might break my no-baking rule and bake these tonight. They sound yummy!

I had some yoghurt curdle about 15 years ago! My own fav recipe is
yoghurt, ginger and garlic crushed, tomato puree, tumeric, salt, lemon juice, tiny bit of chili powder, garam masala (tsp) - mix. Coat chicken (or other meat) and leave as long as possible in the fridge. Skewer meat and grill but take the yoghurt mix and cook over a medium heat for long enough to cook any chicken juices.
Or cook it all in the pan on the stove top until the chicken is done (I prefer this lazy way tbh as I hate cleaning the grill pan and you'd die waiting for some sunshine for a barbq.)
As long as the marinade is thoroughly cooked too there's no problem using it as the sauce.
Serve with naan made from flour, yoghurt, pinch of salt. Roll a firm dough into shapes and slap down in a dry frying pan until bubbling brown then turn.

Diane - The yogurt doesn't curdle when its heated? That would be my worry. Also I've never made naan from scratch. Do you have a recipe that you particularly care for?

I'd use yoghurt rather than the carnation, works just fine. You can also use yoghurt with flour to make some flat breads to toast just like naans! And don't forget some cucumber and yoghurt salad to go with it!

They look pretty yummy. Bread flour sounds a bit odd but I've used it several times when I've run out of normal flour for other recipes. I think last time it was for banana buns and it worked really well!

Hi there

This looks like a good recipe. Can I just ask how much two 'sticks' of butter weigh? I'm pretty sure the packs of butter over here in the UK are a different size to the ones you get in the US.

Thanks

Hello Missy!
I would like to make those cookies. Could you tell me what do you mean by 2 sticks of butter? In the UK we mostly buy butter in 250g bars. How much butter would your 2 sticks be? Thanks

Cookies look great, and you've done a nice job presenting how to make them.

However, please correct your spelling. Evar is not a word. Neither is Evarz. "Ever" is the correct spelling. It does not take a plural. Thanks!

Steph - For real, they really are so effing good. Plus you're right if it was the lottery or these cookies on hand every day for the rest of my life I'd definitely have a hard time choosing.

D - You've got to try them. They're a trillion times better than Toll Houses.

Celeste - Yay! I didn't know you read this blog! They're really awesome and relatively easy to make!

Shannon - You're so lucky! We're taking a road trip next month and plan on hitting every Sonic we see on the way there.

I'll have to try that with Graham Crackers, that sounds absolutely divine!

I love homemade salad dressing- store bought doesn't compare. I've not tried the 1 to 1 ratio before, and I have noticed that my dressing is sort of oily tasting. I'll definitely give this recipe a try next time I whip up a batch!

I love sonic too. Luckily for me, we're getting some in August, so I won't have to drive 2 hours when I get a craving. And believe me. I DO it.

I also like Graham Cracker sandwiches, but on one side I put peanut butter, and the other Nutella and put them together. Heaven.

Amber - Maybe it was the time of year too. I find that I don't enjoy this nearly as much in the summer as I do in the winter. Its just a little heavy for me in the summer. A friend of mine makes it with cream of mushroom and she enjoys it so give it a shot that way.

It wasn't bad at all. I think hubby liked it more than I did. I think if I make it again, I'll use cream of mushroom. I'm not overly keen on cream of chicken unless it's in chicken pot pie with tons of other vegetables and pastry to balance out the rich flavor. So yeah, I think I'll try it again with cream of mushroom.

The beans definitely added some bulk to the recipe. Hubby really liked it, said it was very British of me to put a starch with a starch. :) At least it made him happy! He didn't even mind the cheese. (Normally he hates melted cheese on anything but a burger.)

I'm making this as we speak. Only, the cupboards are pretty bare. I had everything but the mushrooms.

So then I started looking for peas. Or green beans... nada. Sheesh, I need to go grocery shopping!

Anyway, I did find a can of white beans, and I thought, why not!

It smells pretty good already, and it's only been in 5 minutes.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thats the spirit! Oddly I said the same thing about sushi this weekend!

Duuude. Where's the garlic naan? You can't have tikka without naan. What on earth do you use to scoop up all the lovely gravy?!

If you ever find yourself in Hoboken, NJ, head to the Karma Kafe, on Washington between 5th and 6th. On the weekend, they do a $10 buffet with all the fresh pillowy naan bread and chicken tikka masala you can eat.

I'm drooling just thinking about it.

You see, this is what happens when I end up having a Chef Boyardee Mini-Bites bowl for dinner and nothing else.

The husband and I are hitting the buffet this weekend. He just doesn't know it yet.

Can I just get my ticket straight to hell now? What about a graham cracker sandwich with Nutella?

I love to put Nutella on Crumpets, which you can get anywhere in the UK, but apparently only at places like Trader Joe's on the east coast. I wouldn't even try to find them in Texas, when I'm home.

So here's my top 5:

1. Fried roundsteak with mashed potatoes and cream gravy, as made by me, or my momma. (I think I just cried a little.)

2. Whataburger - #5 Combo: Bacon Cheeseburger, made fresh to order, with fries, and that DAMN KETCHUP THAT IS MADE WITH CRACK (any Texan will tell you that their ketchup is somehow laced with some addictive substance that requires you to eat it even when you don't normally like ketchup - I am a prime example)

3. Sonic extra long cheese coney and a diet cherry limeade. Oh God. I hate living on the east coast.

4. Potato and Egg breakfast tacos from Las Palapas at 2 o'clock in the morning. Mmmm.

5. Houlihan's Stuffed Chicken. It's stuffed with garlic and herb cream cheese, covered in panko crumbs, and then baked, and served with garlic mashed potatoes, onion strings, and fresh green and yellow beans.

Can I add a 6? Cus I definitely got one! Green & Black's chocolate, any flavor.

I was just stopping by cus I'm going to make your creamy chicken bake thinger at some point this weekend, and also wanted to tell you that I finally started my own cooking blog - http://www.bluebonnetsandbrownies.com.

I think I somehow friended your journal from LJ along the way. But I couldn't resist commenting on this post. And those Blueberry Muffins look incredible.

OK, you are too cool.

First, your fiancé's name. Love.

Then? You live in the Berkshires and that's just over the top.

Plus, the recipes are delicious looking.

I think I'm gonna like it here!
